The Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race has been called the last great race. Join musher Karen Ramstead and her North Wapiti team of pure bred Siberian Huskies as they train for and enter the 2005 Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. Three time emmy winner (camera operation) Donna Quante, has taken her love of the Siberian Husky, a keen interest in the Iditarod and her TV knowledge to make a movie the whole family can enjoy.(Some dog oriented language may not be appropriate for all children.) Original music by Kyf Brewer completes the experience. The title song explains the race, while "The Husky's Code" is told from the dogs point of view. It may bring a tear to your eye.

Reviews

Gotta say that I thought it was excellent. Not only because you covered every aspect of training and getting ready for the Iditarod, but also because you captured the real, down to earth, Karen. And I don't even know Karen.
What am I trying to say here?!!
It wasn't one dimensional! That's what I'm trying to say. It was multi-dimensional. It gave insights into not only the training and racing process, but also the love Karen has for her dogs! The idiosyncracies of the dogs as individuals, and the intracacies of a dog team.
I loved it. Can't wait for time enough to watch the Sven DVD now.

What a great movie! Whether you are a fan of sled dogs or not, this movie will make you feel you are riding with Karen and the North Wapiti dogs. It'll captivate you !
The music by Kyf Brewer is wonderful and still brings tears to my eyes. I've purchased multiple copies for gifts.

Donna Quante's DVD follows the "Pretty Sled Dogs", the purebred Siberian huskies from NorthWapiti kennel in Alberta, Canada, as they train and prepare for the 2005 Iditarod Sled Dog Race.
Donna's interviews and pictures show how the daily interactions between musher (dog driver) Karen Ramstead and her dogs build the mutual trust and affection that is essential for the sport of long-distance sled dog racing. I particularly liked the footage at the kennel where Karen introduces the dogs. Her job is to meld their individual characteristics and quirks, experiences and abilities into a team that can run over 1000 miles over the course of the 10-14 days it will take to complete the Iditarod sled dog race. You get to "see" a training run from the exciting perspective of being on the sled as a passenger, follow the team to Alaska where they continue training and then watch as they leave civilization to start their big adventure.
Two original songs composed and performed by Kyf Brewer add to the entertainment and educational value of the video: "Pretty Sled Dogs" celebrates the excitement and anticipation leading up to the start of the race, while the mellower "Husky's Code" explains in beautiful verse the relationship between huskies and their driver. Even non-mushers will get misty-eyed as they reflect on how the lives of the dogs depend on the musher for food and care while the musher must totally rely on the dogs' skill and strength for transport across miles of wilderness.
"Pretty Sled Dogs" lets you glimpse a special world where humans and dogs bond together and inspire each other to live up to their potential, sharing an epic adventure along the way. Don't miss this tale!
